👩💻 “I’ve applied for junior roles that are way less than my current level and I STILL can’t get an interview!!!” – Talent.
The job market is tough, and, if you are an experienced leader who’s recently been let go from their job, it could be even tougher.
Agency Iceberg recently spoke with a gorgeous Talent who has been looking for a role for more than 6+ months. They have applied to 100+ roles in Australia, interviewed for many of these roles, and been rejected.
They even told us that they had applied for roles that were WAY below their level of experience, just to get back into the industry.
We get it. 🙁
You could be wanting to transition into a new industry, gain new skills, or move in-house/agency side to try something new – it all makes sense.
The reality is, this is a RED FLAG 🔺 for many employers.
Why?
🔴 Employers “could” see this move as wanting to just find “any role”, and, when your dream role comes up, you’ll leave
🔴 You “could” be seen to have a lack of ambition, suffer from boredom or frustration
🔴 Employers may be hesitant to pay you a significantly lower salary, knowing this will have an impact on your financial circumstances
🔴 The employer is looking for a specific level of work experience and culturally has a specific type of person in mind (e.g. Marketing Account Manager with 3-4 years experience max who’s hungry to learn and grow into a Senior AM) etc.
What can you do?
🟢 Tailor your CV to the job and ensure it’s relevant (e.g. Don’t have alcohol brand experience? Don’t apply for roles that require it)
🟢 Show your eagerness to learn and grow during the interview process, ensuring the client knows you’re not precious about titles/seniority etc., you’re more interested in doing GREAT work with GREAT people
🟢 Be honest! If you have an interview for a role that’s junior to where you are currently, acknowledge that during the interview and say why you are keen to pursue the job (learn, upskill, new industry, new client sector etc.)
🟢 Apply for roles that are at your level (or perhaps one level below)
🟢 Reach out to competitor brands and ask if they are looking to hire. Not everyone advertises jobs! (e.g. If you worked in marketing for Audi, why don’t you contact VW, BWM, Porsche, BYD, or Toyota for a role?)
🟢 Hang in there – this too shall pass!
