AI in the Workplace

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the workplace landscape. From chatbots to robots, the workplace has come a long way in the last few years. New technologies always bring uncertainty, worry and excitement. Like the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s, the AI revolution is rapidly changing production and how we gain information and communicate.

So, how is AI impacting jobs, industries and the world around us?

Customer Experience aka CX

Chatbots and virtual assistants can handle routine inquiries, customer support, and administrative tasks 24/7. Faster response times and personalised customer experience benefit not only the customer but also boost company loyalty and help build trust. Using chatbots and virtual assistants not only improves customer service but also allows employees to concentrate on other jobs, thus freeing their time.

AI can also be used for market research, helping companies better understand their customers and improve engagement. Traditionally, the process of collecting customer data relied on manual and time-consuming methods, such as surveys, focus groups, and interviews. Now, with the help of AI, market research can be done in a fraction of the time and cut costs.

Streamlining Jobs

Content creation has never been easier than it is now with AI. ChatGPT has completely revolutionised how we gain information and produce written content. ChatGPT can be used to:

Adobe now offers Adobe Firefly, a program that generates commercial use AI images, with an aim to improve creative workflow. Social media scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite and Sprout Social use AI by creating generative text, scheduling posts when high engagement is predicted, and finding brand-relevant content to boost. While the marketing automation program Mailchimp uses AI to generate branding, content, and scheduling. Thus, helping employees streamline their jobs so that their focus can be on building the business and generating more income.

Boost Productivity

AI can do repetitive tasks such as scheduling, booking, and updating calendars, freeing up employees to focus more on strategic aspects of their jobs. It also allows for more of a focus on jobs that might be overlooked due to a lack of resources or time. According to a study published by the Harvard Business School AI can improve a worker’s performance by as much as 40% compared with workers who don’t use it.

Collaboration

Collaboration is key for any workplace and AI tools can enhance teamwork and communication regardless of physical location. They can help break down language barriers, analyse data and reduce the risk of human error, facilitate file sharing, and make innovative suggestions that prompt discussions and build on current ideas.

Jobs jobs jobs!

With new technology, certain jobs become redundant. The Industrial Revolution saw many skilled jobs being cut in favour of using machines. The rise of AI is no different and some jobs will be replaced by computers and robots. However, technology also brings new and exciting opportunities. The World Economic Forum predicts that while AI may replace close to 85 million jobs by next year, it will also create approximately 97 million new jobs!

AI technology is moving at a rapid pace. While it might be scary how fast it’s changing the workplace, there are many benefits to how it’s impacting our daily lives.
